Stazione Marittima - Congress Building

thumb_stazione-marittimaThe "Stazione Marittima" (maritime station) was esablished in October 28th, 1930 and  is one of the best works created by architects Umberto Nordio and Giacomo Zammattio.

China and Japan, the Americas and Australia, Istanbul and Odessa, but also the islands of Dalmatia, Ancona, Venice: all places where ships were docked after their depart from Trieste and from the "Stazione Marittima". The names of those boats that have sailed the seas all over the world are recalled in the rooms that now make up the Congress Centre: Vulcano, Saturnia, Oceania.

The transformation of the old "Stazione Marittima" into a modern conference venue has taken place gradually, but in 1984 the building changed with the final destination of the first restructuring plan, used as a conference center and designed to host conferences, workshops, exhibitions and meetings of all type. Subsequently in 2002 the renovation of the premises on the ground floor enhances the potential of all those wide spaces that are particularly suited to hosting exhibitions and the return of the white ships.

Bordered on three sides by the sea and in the cultural heart of the city, now the Congress Building is one of the most significant historical monuments of Trieste. The imposing building is reflected in the vastness of the spaces created within it. A double staircase leads from the precious gray marble lobby on the first floor. The lobby is the most esthetical part of the building: thanks to large windows that make up the walls, and overlook the beautiful Gulf of Trieste, the hall is very bright and fits for the preparation of exhibitions of great impact and different types. Served by a lift and elevators, the lobby is equipped for the reception and comfort of participants.

From here you can access all the rooms on the first floor of the building, loft area and dining area.
