By car

thumb_castello_miramareIt can be reached by car from the A4 Venice - Trieste (recently affected by a project to widen to three lanes in each direction, as the significant increase in traffic flow in recent years) through the first gate near Sistiana, that connects to the regional Road 14. You can admire the landscape on the Gulf known as the Coastal Road. After this exit the highway is called Motorway 13. You can find other exits near Prosecco  and the last stretch Padriciano – Cattinara, completed and opened to traffic in November 2008. The city is also connected to the Slovenian motorway network. To go to Ljubljana you have to cross the old border Fernetti, while to reach Istria you must cross the border Rabuiese, linking the city to the motorway network to Koper and Pula.

By train

thumb_trieste_central_stationTrieste is served by lines RFI SpA to Venice and Udine that connect with the rest of the country; the Austro-Hungarian Southern Railway linking the city with Ljubljana and Vienna, while the Transalpine Railway reaches the current Czech Republic.
Passenger traffic is concentrated in the Trieste Central Station with daily connections (EurostarCity, Intercity Plus, Intercity Night) to all major Italian cities. The Cisalpino Company reaches Basel. Euronight Trains stop at Villa Opicina for Eastern Europe.

Trieste - Ronchi dei Legionari Airport is the only regional airport.
